I've been following the stories of scavenging around the world and find them wrenching and such an indictment of inequity, racism, & class society. Thank you for these photos because they make the crimes against people much more real and pesonal to us.

Most of the photographs of your blog show the ugliness of the society which is known to all of us. Just come out from it and see the world... It is good enough to love. Can you think something innovative which will really be helpful - some developmental work or some good initiatives by the kids or some attractive innovative display board / hoarding or like that... Street Children or Crow on Gandhi Ji's head or even the vibrant Gujarati Family... Meaningless... But I liked the Manual Scavenging good bye.. that was really a nice one.

  6. @Swagato....first feel ashamed that it still goes on in our society...Be ashamed of how caste systems determines our lives...makes us violate every human right...This needs to be exposed; society needs to be constantly reminded lest we relapse into complacence....A lot of development work is already going on. But let these photographs remind us about the society that we live in. This is not to say there is nothing good that is going on; but what is more important is to be aware of such injustice so that we work towards justice and equality.

  7. @swagato: it is easy to crave for fresh air and bluer sky sitting in a sanitized drawing room sipping fresh coffee. India shines then. one can only wish the lesser mortals of Bharat could do so as well....

  8. I appreciate your concerns as I am also working on the same field since last 14 years. I am not a person of sitting in drawing room and taking coffee... definitely, we need to think on these issues. But what i expect from Umesh is something different which itself will explain about the new thoughts / new ideas and that can be adopted for any other parts of India.
