One thing should be remembered here that this person is not a charactor of a street play or not that of any kind of play. He has opted to put on this the T-shirt on which written "Shudra" in Gujarati language. Here term "Shudra" could have no traditional meaning. it have different one.

I clicked this resting dignity from Thaangadh Dalit Mahasammelan against Thaangadh police firing. In this firing three Dalit youths died on September 22 and 23 at Thangadh in Surendranagar district.

શારદાબેન ભરથરી અને વસ્તુ-વિનિમય (4 Pictures & Texts)

     શારદાબેન રામાભાઈ ભરથરી વડાલીથી (જીલ્લો : સાબરકાંઠા) ત્રણ  કિલોમીટર  દૂર નવાનગરમાં રહે. ૧૫ વર્ષ પહેલાં રામાભાઈ જંતર વગાડતા, શારદાબેન તેમની પડખે ઊભાં રહેતાં, હાથ લાંબો કરી બે પૈસા માગતાં, ઘરે જતાં, અડધું-પડધું તેલ, અડધો-પડધો મસાલો, અડધી-પડધી શાકભાજી અને પૂરેપૂરું પાણી આ થયું એમનું શાક, સાથે મકાઈના રોટલા, એટલે એમનું રોજનું ભોજન. 

     સમય બદલાતાં  લોકોની આદત બદલાઈ, મનોરંજનનાં માધ્યમો બદલાયાં, જંતર હવે લોકોને જૂનું લાગવા લાગ્યું, એટલે બે પૈસા આપવાનું બંધ કર્યું. શારદાબેનનાં પરિવાર પર આભ તૂટ્યું એમ તો હું નહિ કહું, ભલે એમની કુખેથી પાંચ દીકરા ને એક દીકરી જન્મ્યાં હતાં. શારદાબેન લડવાવાળાં જણ, ભલે એમને સરકારની નીતિની કશી ખબર નાં હોય, પણ જીવવાની નીતિને બરાબર પારખે. પતિએ ભલે રામાપીરનું નાનું મંદિર બનાવ્યું ને મંદિરમાં ભગત થયા. 

     શારદાબેને નાનકડો ધંધો શરૂ કર્યો. ફુગ્ગા, કાકડી, કાનની બુટ્ટી, નાકની નથણી, ચાંલ્લો, માથાની પીન, બક્કલ, ને એવું ઘણું બધું. રોજ વડાલી ગામમાં ફરવાનું ને ધંધો કરવાનો. પણ આવક પૂરતી થાય નહીં. આવક વધારવા શું કરવું ? વિચાર આવ્યો : માથાના વાળની ગૂંચ. ગૂંચ બધા ફેંકી દે, એના કરતા હું લઇ લઉં તો કેવું ? આવક વધશે. થયું પણ એવું. ભાંભી-વાસમાં, વણકર-વાસમાં, વાલ્મીકિ-વાસમાં, ઠાકરડા-વાસમાં શારદાબેન ફરવાં લાગ્યાં ને માથાના વાળની ગૂંચના બદલે વસ્તુઓ આપવા લાગ્યાં, પૈસા લઈને પણ વસ્તુઓ વેચવાની તો ખરી જ. માથાના વાળની ગૂંચ ઘરે ભેગી કરવાની. દર અઠવાડિયે ઇડરથી આવે તેને આપી દેવાની ને વજન પ્રમાણે પૈસા લઇ લેવાના. વસ્તુ-વિનિમયના કારણે શારદાબેનની રોજની ચોખ્ખી આવકમાં "તરી રૂપ્યાનો" વધારો થયો. પહેલાં વીસ કમાતાં, હવે પચાસ. શારદાબેનની આવક, રામાભાઈની કદાચ મંદિરની આવકથી બધું હેમખેમ છે. શારદાબેનનો આજે એક જ દીકરો કુંવારો છે. પંદર વર્ષનો છે, ભણ્યો નથી.  બાકીના ચાર પોતપોતાની રીતે કામે વળગી ગયા છે, દીકરી પણ પરણીને સાસરે છે. 

     શારદાબેનનું જીવન આપણને ઘણું કઠણ લાગશે, પણ એમને મન તો સરળ, કારણ, એમને તો પનારો પડ્યો છે, એટલે જીવનને જીવે છે, જીતે છે.

             Vadomiben is with her husband and two female children, both children have still not seen the school, and with the other family of her elder's brother husband who has two children (female & male), here is the same situation.

Work : blacksmithing - to make and repair things made of iron by her husband & her

Where? : every week, there are three villages in the surrounding area (150 to 350 Rs per day earning)

An excerpt from the order of The Supreme Court Of India (27.1.2010): On 20.01.2010, an assurance was given to this Court on behalf of the learned Additional Solicitor General that immediate steps would be taken to provide night shelters to the homeless people by the Government in coordination with all the agencies, including the Non-Government Organizations. He also assured that not only the existing facilities would be improved but additional facilities would be created such as blankets, water and mobile toilets.
